Activism on Facebook to Combat Street Harassment

Friend and activist Holly Kearl brought this 'I Never Ask For It' Facebook group to my attention and I think all of you should check it out! It's trying to bring awareness to unwanted sexual attention and all forms of sexual harassment / violence against women.

On their page they say: NO WOMAN OF ANY AGE, COLOUR, CHARACTER EVER DESERVES TO BE SEXUALLY VIOLATED OR WHAT SOME MIGHT LIGHTLY CALL 'EVE-TEASED' - I NEVER ASK FOR IT, which is absolutely true. And Facebook is the perfect medium to get this message across to the masses and start a dialogue about street harassment with the many who are still unaware, especially since Facebook has the power to reach so many people in no time at all.

Eve Teasing: Eve teasing is a euphemism used in India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan for public sexual harassment, street harassment or molestation of women by men, with Eve being a reference to the biblical Eve.

How to Get Involved:
1. Change your facebook display photo by selecting an image from the event abum.

2. Tag your friends.

3. Update your facebook status message to what you wore when you experienced sexual violence and add I NEVER ASK FOR IT.

If you're male and still wondering how this would work for you- make your status message:

NO WOMAN OF ANY AGE , COLOUR, CHARACTER EVER DESERVES TO BE SEXUALLY VIOLATED OR WHAT SOME MIGHT LIGHTLY CALL 'EVE-TEASED' - SHE NEVER 'ASKS FOR IT'
